About The Museum

The mission of the Elm Fork Natural Heritage Museum is to provide opportunities to discover and share knowledge about plants, animals and their environment. In addition to providing resources to trained scientists the museum also provides resources for citizen scientists of all ages and backgrounds to explore natural history and especially to inspire in the young a life long interest in nature. Using specimens from the teaching collection we have designed programs to provide investigative encounters that engage students of all ages in discovery expereiences. These opportunities are designed to enhance student awareness of their environment and responsible environmental stewardship. During the past year the museum partnered with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas and he Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge in presenting a program called North Texas Ecology: Embracing our Natural Heritage. Additional information is provided on these activities in the supplementary documentation section.
